Pepper McCormick Places 3rd In Nation At TSA Conference

Calhoun Middle/High School sophomore Pepper McCormick has placed third in the nation in Career Prep at the Technology Student Asso-ciation (TSA) Conference.

She is the daughter of Jonathan and Virginia McCormick.

The conference, with a theme of “Model the Way,” was held June 28-July 2 at Gaylord National Resort, National Harbor, near Washington, D.C.

Approximately 8,500 students from across the country, American Sa-moa, U.S. Virgin Islands, Germany, and Turkey attended the 2019 National TSA event.

Students competed in technology and leader-ship contests, such as bio-technology, career prep, coding, digital photog-raphy, problem solving, prepared speech, video game design, website design, etc.

Trophies were awarded to the top three finalists and pins were awarded to the top 10.
This is only the second year that CM/HS has had a TSA chapter, and both years Calhoun students have not only earned the right to attend the national conference, but have also taken the stage as national finalists.

Attendance at the con-ference was made possi-ble by a Calhoun County ASPIRE program and a travel grant for first place state winners from West Virginia Dept. of Education.
