Hugh “Jack” Miller, 88, of Spencer, formerly of Shock, died Thursday, June 20, 2019, at his home.
He was born in Gilmer County, the son of the late Earl V. and Pina Bishop Miller. He was a U.S. Marine, who served in the Korean War from Mar. 18, 1952, to Mar. 17, 1954. He was wounded in action on July 8, 1953.
Surviving are his wife, June Schartiger Miller, whom he married on Apr. 2, 1960; three daughters, Lois K. Miller of Glenville, Kelly L. Daniel and husband James of Bowling Green, Ky., and Robin D. Jarvis of Spencer; three grandchildren, Joel R. Jarvis III of Spencer, Rachel L. Daniel of Louisville, Ky., and Benjamin J. Daniel, of Bowling Green; four brothers, Rex Miller of Orrville, Ohio, Stephen Joe Miller of Stumptown, and Davy Miller and John Miller, both of Shock; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Rachel Wolfe; one brother, Ancel Miller; and one son-in-law, Joel “Nick” Jarvis II.
Jack donated his body to WVU Medical School. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, July 28, 1:30 p.m., at Heritage Park Community Building, 110 Church St., Spencer. The public is invited to share stories and remember a life lived to the fullest. Luncheon will follow the service.
