Previously winless Tyler Consolidated scored on its first six possessions and cruised to a 47-6 win over Calhoun County last Friday night at Mt. Zion.
The Red Devils, still searching for their first win at home this season, saw their record dip to 1-3 with the loss.
The visiting Knights scored early and often in the first two quarters to take a 41-0 lead at the half. Tyler’s possessions were efficient, especially in the first quarter when the Silver and Black scored four touchdowns on six plays and a punt return.
By contrast, the Red Devils were unable to dent the scoreboard in the first half. Calhoun was limited to two yards rushing in the half, but did manage 124 yards passing in the first two quarters of play.
Both teams scored in the third quarter to set the final score at 47-6.
Calhoun’s lone score of the game came after Tyler scored its final touchdown of the night.
Mason Nicholas re-turned the Knights’ kickoff 42 yards, and three plays later, Adam Parsons rumbled 26 yards to place the ball at Tyler 13. On the next play, Nicholas carried the ball the remaining distance for a touchdown.
Dalton McCune (12) and Mason Nicholas (9) led Calhoun in tackles. Adam Parsons was named Player of the Week.
The loss was Calhoun’s 14th straight at home, tying a record for conse-cutive home losses set earlier in the decade.
The Red Devils’ last victory on home turf was an 8-6 decision over Wirt County on Oct. 23, 2015.
The game was also Calhoun’s 11th loss all-time to Tyler Consolidated against no victories in a series that dates back to 1993.
This Friday, the Red Devils will try to notch a victory against the 0-3 Blue Devils of St. Marys High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 at Bill Hanlin Stadium.
