ARLENE McDONALD
Arlene McDonald, 89, of Parkersburg, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, at her residence.
She was born at Mt. Zion, the daughter of the late Joseph Hall and Allie Whytsell Hall Butler. She was a homemaker and was a member of North End Church of Christ.
Surviving are by two sons, including Lloyd E. McDonald, Jr.; three daughters, including Sarah Hildebrand and Shirley Rader; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews, including Chuck and Sam Conger and Buster and Judy Hersman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd E. McDonald, Sr.; four sisters, including her identical twin, Irene Conger; and four brothers.
Memorial service was held at North End Church of Christ, with Evangelist John W. Rockhold III and Evangelist Steven Haguewood officiating.
JOANN DAWSON
Joann Dawson, 75, of Grantsville, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018.
She was born in Big Bend, the daughter of the late Shirdie and Eulah Hosey Richards. She attended Calhoun County High School and worked at Economy Industries, Harrisville, for 18 years, R.P.R. Industries for three years, and retired from Calhoun County Board of Education. She was a member of Norman Ridge Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Larry Dawson; four sons, Douglas and Beverly Dawson of Big Springs, Allen and Tina Dawson of Big Bend, Greg and Sue Dawson of Grantsville and Jerry Dawson of Reedy; five grandchildren, Greg, Debbie Smith, Derek, Kenny and Monique; four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Brantley, Bronson and Mayle; three brothers, Roger Richards, Robert Richards and Kenny Richards; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Alex McKenzie Dawson; one brother, Donald Richards; and two sisters, Carol Hovey and Doris Lanzo.
Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Tim Davis officiating. Burial was in Norman Ridge Cemetery.
DENZIL EARL ROSE
Denzil Earl Rose, 78, of Walker, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at Worthington Healthcare Center.
He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Russell and Mildred Nutter Rose.
Surviving are two sons, Todd Rose of Athens, Tenn., and Denzil Rose, Jr., of Walker; one daughter, Kayla Rose of Florida; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five siblings, Jean, Arthur “Bud,” Mary, Ronnie and David.
Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg.
CAROLYN JO RUSH
Carolyn Jo Rush, 62, of Gallipolis, Ohio, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, at Holzer Health System, Gallipolis.
She was born at Gassaway, the daughter of the late Lonnie and Barbara Wickline Shamblin. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are four children, Darrell Keener of Ohio, Crystal Taylor of Spencer and Andy Keener and Hunter Rush, both of Gallipolis; nine siblings, Patricia Hedrick of Elkview, Doris Tanner-Westfall and Bobby Shamblin, both of Duck, Billie Jean McKown and Thomas Shamblin, both of Spencer, Lonnie Eugene Shamblin of Arnoldsburg, Darrell Shamblin of Stumptown, Henrietta Jones of Grantsville and Ronald Shamblin of Summersville; and three grandchildren, Johnathan, Zaylah and Monquie Taylor.
Services were held at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Lester Tanner officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.
GERALD GLEN SMITH
Gerald Glen Smith, 71, of Grantsville, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, at his residence.
He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Paul and Opal Dolly Snyder Smith.
Surviving are one son, Tony Smith of Big Bend; one daughter, Ellen Smith of Charleston; two step-daughters, Betty Reisinger of Big Bend and Shirley Lamp of Grantsville; and five grandchildren, Nevaeh Houston of Charleston, Riva Tanner of Big Bend, Walter Wilson of Grantsville, and Joseph and James Beck of New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Boots Yoak and Nancy Smith, and one son, Michael Smith.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial will be in McCray Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.stumpfuneralhomes.com.
