ERNEST ‘Sonny’ HAUGHT
L. Ernest “Sonny” Haught, Jr., 83, of Smithville, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, at Camden Clark Medical Center.
He was born in Smithville, the son of the late L.E. Haught, Sr., and Ethel B. Parks Haught. He was a 1964 charter member and lifelong volunteer of Smithville Volunteer Fire Dept. and a 1975 charter and board of directors member for Ritchie County Emergency Squad. He worked in the oil and gas industry, starting at a young age with his father for the family-owned Haught Drilling Co.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Edith Dye; two sons, Dana Haught and companion Laura Frymier and Jimmy and Onie Haught, all of Smithville; three daughters Annetta and Ronnie Siers of Glendale, Terry Haught Keith and companion Larry Blake of Bethesda, Ohio, and Sherry and Randy Luzader of Sand Fork; grandchildren, James Haught and fiancé Katie Jacot of Garden Grove, Calif., Travis and Tanya Haught of Mission Viejo, Calif., Christopher and Emily Siers of Richmond, Ky., Allen and Lauren Siers of Nutter Fort, Noah and Ashley Siers of Elkview, Shawn and Danielle Haught and Timmy Haught of Smithville, Justin Hendershot and fiancé Danielle Lawson of Cambridge, Ohio, Sonny Keith of Columbus, Ohio, Jenna Blake and Cody Nelson of Salesville, Ohio, Jesse Keith of Flushing, Ohio, and Meghan Luzader and Richard Dorsey of Glenville; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Archer and Ava Haught, John and Max Jacot, Pyper, Briella and Rae Siers, Rylan Haught, and Jaxon and Casen Nelson; one sister, Lois Simmons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fireman’s Final Call and graveside services following cremation were held at Haught Cemetery, Beatrice.
LENORIS JEAN ‘Joann’ SAMPSON COEN
Lenoris Jean “Joann” Samp-son Coen, 79, of Ivydale, died Saturday, Mar. 2, 2019, at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Ivan Queen and Georgia Sampson.
Surviving are 11 daughters, Norma Davis of North Carolina, Debbie Davis of Glenville, De-anna Hall, Phyllis Tanner, Paula Metheney, Penny Coen, Georgianna Corn and Stacy Murphy, all of Clay, Jerri Drake of Gassaway, and Melissa Tanner and Shonda Tanner, both of Florida; one brother, Roger Green of Parkersburg; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death one daughter, Beverly Coen, and one grandson, Michael Keiffer.
Memorial service was scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Otter Lick Church, Ivydale, with Rev. James Williamson officiating, and cremation services provided by Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Online condolences may be expressed at www.stumpfuneralhomes.com.
HOLLY DALE ‘June’ EAGLE, JR.
Holly Dale “June” Eagle, Jr., 95, of Mt. Zion, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at Camden Clark Medical Center, Parkersburg.
He was the son of the late Holly Dale and Minnie Richards Eagle. He was a farmer and retired from Cabot Gas Co. He was a paratrooper and jumped with the 82nd Airborne Division on D-Day, landing at St. Marie Eglise, France. After being wounded, he was placed in the 35th Infantry Division and was wounded a second time at the Rhine River. He was a Baptist.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Genieve Nichols Eagle; one son, David Eagle; one daughter, Jeanie Bland; three grandchildren, Greg Eagle, Steve Shaffer and Kristi Emerson; one step-granddaughter, Ashley Wanosky; four great-grandchildren, Ace Eagle, Taylor Jenkins and Caroline and Kate Emerson; two step-great-grandchildren, Gillian and Juliet Wanosky; several nieces and nephews; and special ex-daughter-in-law, Anita Eagle West.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Eagle, and one daughter, Eleanor Buck.
Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Pastor Leary Vanhorn and Rev. Rick Metheney officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.
MARY LOU DENNISON
Mary Lou Dennison, 62, of Glenville, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at Mon General Hospital, Morgantown.
She was born in Glenville, the daughter of the late Leland and Mary Morris McCullough. She was a 1976 graduate of Gilmer County High School and attended Glenville State College.
She was an employee in the food service industry for more than 39 years.
Surviving are four children, Karen S. Cumber-ledge and husband Steve of Spelter, J.J. Dennison and wife Melissa of Grantsville, Sabrina Dennison and husband Jeremiah and Jacqueline S. Dennison, all of Provenience, Ky.; nine grandchildren, Casey, Kayla and Joseph Cumberledge, Emily Dennison, Desiree Boyd, Keith Boyd, Jr., Tristan Dennison, Scott Braeman and Jacob Burton; one great-granddaughter, Chloe Oldaker; two brothers, Woody McCullough and wife Mary Ellen and Sherman McCullough and wife Dee; two sisters, Nancy McCullough and Alice Hamric and husband Denny; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John V. Dennison, on Apr. 18, 1996; three brothers, John Jacob, Arthur McCullough and Andrew McCullough; and three sisters, Gladys Ellison, Leona Vanhoose and Lillian Clevenger.
Mary Lou’s request for cremation has been honored. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Ellyson Mortuary, 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, with Pastor Dwight Goff officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Lewis County. Visitation will be held Saturday, noon to 1 p.m., at the mortuary.
MIKE HAYMAKER
Mike Haymaker, 77, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2019.
He was born in Arnoldsburg, the son of the late Francis L. and Imogene Johnson Haymaker. He was retired from CSX Railroad.
Surviving are his second wife, Sue Fleming Haymaker; one son, Brian Haymaker; one daughter Melanie Haymaker; several siblings, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Berry Haymaker; one brother, Francis Tink Haymaker; and one grandson, Gavin Haymaker.
There was no visitation or service per Mike’s request.
BILLY BURKE WILSON
Billy Burke Wilson, 80, died Sunday, Mar. 3, 2019.
He was the youngest child of the late Audra and Ollie Wilson and a 1957 graduate of Calhoun County High School. After a few years in Illinois and St. Marys, he returned to Big Springs to raise his family and to farm. He retired from Eureka Pipeline (Pennzoil) with 36 years of service. He was a member of Prosperity Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Roberta; two daughters, Deb Goff and Bea Isner; four grandchildren, Kelly, Joe, Jeff and Corey; four great-grandchildren, Gia, Ava, Cohen and Cason; special great-nephew, Eric; and many other family members.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Ritchie, and two brothers, Calvin (Hack) Wilson and Bradford Wilson.
Service in celebration of Bill’s life will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Ken Heiney officiating. Burial will be in Saunders Cemetery, Big Springs. Visitation was scheduled Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m., and Thursday, 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made, in memory of Bill, to Prosperity Baptist Church or Calhoun Christmas Connection. Billy Dean McKown, 83, of Gay, died Saturday, Mar. 2, 2019, at his home.
He was born in Beech, the son of the late Lee and Vada Hall McKown of Gandeeville.
Surviving are his companion, Marion Snyder Sloan of Gay; four sisters, Sue Romine of Spencer, Bonnie Hockman of Hohenwald, Tenn., Phyllis Spurlock of Gandee-ville and Barbara Miller of Liberty; two step-children, Ruby Simpson of Nitro and Carroll Romine of Looneyville; seven step-grandchildren, Becky Simpson Godfrey, Linda Simpson Parsons, David Simpson, Chuck and Douglass Johnson, Diane Johnson Wells and Rodney Romine; several step-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; four bonus children, Christopher Sloan and Brandy Brabham, both of Gay, Jeremy Sloan of Mineral Wells and Adam Sloan of Newton; nine bonus grandchildren, Amber, Joshua, Haylee, Austin, Kinley, Garrett, Wyatt, Winter and Winston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Gandee McKown; four brothers, Junior McKown of Arnoldsburg, Gene McKown of Norton, Ohio, Glen McKown of Gandeeville and Brice McKown of Spencer; one sister, Ivy Hoskins of Arnoldsburg; five infant siblings; brother-in-law, Russ Romine of Spencer; step-daughter, Reva Johnson of Cross Lanes; and step-daughter-in-law, Nancy Romine of Looneyville.
Services will be held Friday, 2 p.m., at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Charlie White officiating. Burial will be in Clover Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the funeral home. Fellowship at the conclusion of the burial will be at Clover Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Roane County Scholarship Foundation, 805 Summit St., Spencer WV 25276, for a farm-based youth scholarship in Bill’s memory.
