Festival Opens Thursday

The 56th annual Calhoun County Wood Festival begins Thursday in Grantsville.
Preliminary events in-cluded Queen Flora and other pageants on Tues-day night at Calhoun Middle/High School (results were not available at presstime).
Vying for Queen Flora LVI were the following CCHS juniors: Gracie Cooper, 17, daughter of Angel Butler and Richard Radcliff; Erica Nichol Heiney, 17, daughter of Nicki Johnson; and Kaitlyn Marie Toney, daughter of Jeff and Kristy Toney.
Booths open on Thurs-day at 10 a.m. On the Main Street Stage, there will be a performance by the Calhoun Middle/High School percussion ensem-ble at 5:00 and by the Calhoun High dance team at 6:00.
Opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. will include presentation of pageant royalty, crowning of Mr. and Mrs. Woodchuck, and presentation of the Charlie Whipkey Spirit of the Wood Festival Award.
Tracy Miller Trio, with special guest Bruce Jones, will perform at 7:45 p.m.
Booths open on Friday at 10 a.m. Entertainment on the Main Street Stage begins at 5:00, with Sherry Wade karaoke. At 6 p.m., an Arm Wrestling Tournament will begin in front of the Senior Citizens Center.
Other entertainment will include Jack Evans (voice like Elvis) at 6:30 p.m. and County Line at 8 p.m.
Saturday’s events in-clude a 5K and Kids Run at 8 a.m., with registration beginning at 7:30.
Booths will open and mud bog registration begins at 9 a.m. Kids Day activities in front of the courthouse are at 9:30.
At 10:30, line-up be-gins for the grand parade, with information available in front of Grantsville Volunteer Fire Dept. The grand parade starts at 11:30.
Staging for the 2nd annual Splash and Dash Boat Race (anything that floats) is at 12:30 p.m. on Russett Road, two miles East of Grantsville on Rt. 7, with the race beginning at 1 p.m.
Competition in the Wood Festival Mud Bog at Wayne Underwood Field also begins at 1:00.
Saturday’s entertain-ment on the Main Stage gets underway at 1:00 with Phillip Jones, followed at 2:00 with Jerry and Lisa Queen, and at 3:30 by Honky Tonk Sweethearts.
John Richards performs at 5:00 and Johnny Staats and Robert Shafer will entertain at 6:30. Adam Tucker (Vegas Tim Mc-Graw tribute artist) is at 9:00 and the Grand Fireworks finale is at 10:30.
