CARROLL SLIDER
Carroll F. Slider, 82, of Parkersburg, died Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at his residence.
He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late James Paul and Thelma C. Sturm Slider. He was a 1954 graduate of Calhoun High School and served in the U.S. Army. He worked for many years as a mechanic for E.I. DuPont. He was at one time a member of Masonic Lodge and was an active member of Fairlawn Baptist Church.
Surviving are one sister, Norma Cottrell of Belpre, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Busch of Lubeck and Martha Busch of Belpre; niece and nephews, Serina Jones and Shawn Busch, both of Parkersburg, Kevin Busch of Lubeck, Dr. Gregg Busch of Tucson, Ariz., and Lela Ronan of Sarasota, Fla.; great-nieces and nephews, Michaelyn Busch, Mace Busch, Kevin Busch, Jeremy Busch, Nicholas Busch, Emily Busch, Stephen Maher, Morgan Courter, and Maggie Courter; and special friends, Juanita Lemon and Gail “Peanut” Uldrich.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leah Kathryn “Katie” Busch Slider; mother and father-in-law, R.M. and Teresa Busch; and two brothers-in-laws, Glenn Busch and Don Busch.
Services were held at Fairlawn Baptist Church, with Pastor Jason Spade officiating, and entombment in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
KRISTINE ‘Tina’ SAUNDERS BRINSON
Kristine “Tina” Saunders Brinson, 68, died Wednesday, Apr. 4, 2018.
She was born in Southern Maryland, the daughter of the late Marie and Jim of Cobb Island. She had worked as a paramedic at Calhoun County EMS and was a third-generation fire department/EMS member.
Surviving are two daughters, Dana Brinson and wife Kris Snyder and Jessie Brinson; two sons, David Brinson and wife Dani and Kerry Fishel and wife Corey Koch-Fishel; and four grandchildren, Zachary and Abigail Brinson and John-Emery and Josie Fishel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, whom she married in 1971, and one brother, Jack.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ASPCA or local humane society in honor of Tina’s lifelong commitment to rescuing her four-legged friends.
MARY MARIE WEST UMSTEAD
Mary Marie West Umstead, 89, died Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the home of her daughter in Johnson City, Tenn.
She was the daughter of the late Willie and Iva West of Spencer. Before she moved to Tennessee in 2015, she was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist church, where she had been the pianist for over 60 years. Through DHS, she provided many miles of transportation to people needing rides to doctors’ appointments in Parkersburg, Charleston, Morgantown, and elsewhere.
Surviving are one sister, Helen Young of Ravenswood; one daughter, Victoria Stevenson of Johnson City; one son, John Umstead of Pullman; four granddaughters, Anne Wydler of McLean, Va., Maggie Bailey of Westminster, Colo., Whitney Jones of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Lydia Umstead-Fluharty of Pullman; one grandson, Clifton Umstead of Center Moriches, Long Island, N.Y.; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Umstead, and one son, Robert Umstead II.
A small family viewing was held at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, Johnson City. A memorial service and burial will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, near Grantsville, at a yet to be determined date.
