JAMES BERNARD YOAK
James Bernard Yoak, 97, of Ripley, died Tuesday, May 15, 2018, in Ravenswood Village.
He was born in Shock, the son of the late Lloyd and Mary Yoak. He was the former owner and operator of J. Bernard Yoak Excavating. He was a Baptist.
Surviving are two sons, James B. Yoak, Jr., of Eleanor and Michael R. Yoak of Brunswick, Ga.; three daughters, Sharon Seymore of Gilbertsville, Pa., Diane Holder of Spencer and Marsha May of Bridgeport; one brother, Victor Yoak of Ripley; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Yoak; two brothers, Lloyd Yoak, Jr., and Vere Yoak; and four sisters, Wilma Hersman, Thelma Richards, Ruth Hardman and Etna Altizer.
Services were held at Casto Funeral Home, Evans. Burial was in Eventide Cemetery, Spencer.
JAMIE STOVER
Jamie R. Stover, 28, of Peninsula, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at his home.
He was born in Akron, Ohio, the son of Harry and Connie Millican Stover. He had worked for Spectrum Cable as a lineman.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his fiancé, Brittany Barlow; their son, Jack Noah Ray Stover; one sister, Stephanie Gorecki; one brother, Ken Stover; one nephew, Jake; one niece, Emily; paternal grandfather, Jerry Stover; and maternal grandfather, Verlin Millican.
Services were held at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes, Streetsboro Chapel, Ohio.
KAREN SUE KERBY STALLMAN
Karen Sue Kerby Stallman, 69, of Dorset, Ohio, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at her home.
She was born in Anna-moriah, the daughter of the late Freddie and Helen Kerby.
Surviving are her husband of 21 years, Leonard Eugene Stallman; one son, Daniel Jones of Dorset; three daughters, Kelly Gardner and Lori Smith, both of Salem, Ohio, and Tammy Stallman of Elizabeth; one sister, Diana Miller of Annamoriah; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers, one son, and one great-grandson.
Services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial will be in Big Bend Cemetery. Visitation was scheduled Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. DAVID CHARLES PRITT
David Charles Pritt, 71, of Sand Fork, died Friday, May 18, 2018, at Genesis Health Care, Glenville Center.
He was born in Glenville, the son of the late Ralph and Ruby Lamb Pritt. He was a 1965 graduate of Glenville High School and attended Glenville State College and completed a Board of Regents Degree in 1981. He was a 16-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a Vietnam veteran. He retired after 28 years of service with Hope Gas, Inc. He was a member of Sand Fork Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Beverly Hathaway Pritt, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on Feb. 23, 2018; one son, David Charles Pritt, Jr., of Martinsburg; one sister, June Carr of Sand Fork; one brother, Terry Pritt of Glenville; special friends, Malcolm and Lurenda Allison and children of Sand Fork; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Allen Pritt.
Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Ellyson Mortuary, Glenville, with Pastor Brett Reinhart officiating. Burial will be in Meadow Lane Cemetery, Glenville. Visitation will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the mortuary.
DAVID RAY ANDERSON
David Ray Anderson, 58, of Gandeeville, died Friday, May 18, 2018, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.
He was born in Roane County, the son of Mary Harris Anderson of Gandeeville and the late Olen Anderson. He did odd jobs on farms around the area.
Surviving in addition to his mother are two sisters, Karen Anderson Ray of Chloe and Sharon Belcher of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; and one brother, Clifford Anderson of Gandeeville.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ricky, Carl, Robert and Frank.
Per his request, the body was cremated.
WALTER TOPPINGS, JR.
Walter “Beep” Toppings, Jr., 87, of Glenville, died Thurs-day, May 17, 2018, at Miletree Nursing Home, Spencer.
He was born in Logan County, the son of the late Walter Toppings and Alberta Mae Stallings Toppings. He worked in sawmills or cutting right of way for power companies.
Surviving are one daughter, Drema May Toppings of Guyandotte; two sons, Lyle Albert Toppings of Millstone and Bobby Lee Toppings and wife Leslie of Glenville; five grandchildren, Bobby “Bub” Toppings and wife Deborah of Chloe, Miranda Hudson and husband Jeremy of Cheylan, Jamie Conrad, stationed in the U.S. Army, Seattle, Wash., and Kaleb and Elysa Conrad of Glenville; and four great-grandchildren, Gina and Zeke Toppings of Chloe and Ethan Hudson and Mikah Fisher, both of Cheylan; three sisters, Clara Toppings Ferguson and husband Kenneth, Juanita “Sis” Toppings and husband Dean and Ruth Toppings Slusher and husband Melvin, all of North Carolina; three brothers, Olen Toppings and wife Carol of Teays Valley and James Toppings and wife Christine and Nolan Toppings and wife Gail, all of Hamlin; three sisters-in-law, Connie Toppings of Point Pine, Faye Toppings of Cloden and Violet Toppings of Chapmanville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Toppings Adams, and 10 brothers, Roger, Marvin, Walton, Joseph, Samuel, Frederick, Osen, Merrel, Daniel and Adam Toppings.
Services were held at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, with Pastor Vane Bush officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
ROSCOE FRANKLIN McCUNE
Roscoe Franklin McCune, 94, of Columbia Station, Ohio, died Saturday, May 19, 2018, at his home.
He was born in Nicut, the son of the late Samuel and Ester White McCune. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a 32nd Degree Mason. He retired from Ford Motor Co. and was a member of Christian Unity Church, N. Eaton, Ohio.
Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Osbun of Vermilion, Ohio, and Penny Kearns of Columbia Station; one son, Garry McCune of Grafton, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Norma Pettit McCune, Betty Harris McCune and Pearl Conrad McCune; one son, Larry McCune, Sr.; two grandsons, Larry McCune, Jr., and Mark Osbun; and one great-grandson, Ryan Broz.
Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Lester Tanner officiating. Burial will be in Orma United Methodist Church Cemetery. JUDY BROWNING ROGERS
Judy C. Browning Rogers, 73, of Mooresville, N.C., died Sunday, May 28, 2017, at her home.
She was born in Boone County, the daughter of the late Jesse Clifford Browning and Ruth Ryan Browning. She grew up in Morrisvale and was a 1962 graduate of Scott High School. She retired from Davidson College and attended The Cove Church.
Surviving are one son, John Wesley Rogers and wife Amy of Grantsville; two daughters, Kimberly Butler of Glenville and Melinda Smith and husband O.B. of Mooresville; seven grandchildren, Josh Butcher, Hiley Smith, Alayna and Jacob Butler and Savannah, Cole and Summer Rogers; one brother; and five sisters.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Rogers of Grantsville, whom she married on Sept. 2, 1962.
Judy’s wishes were to be cremated. Graveside services will be held Sunday, 1 p.m., at Bethlehem Cemetery, near Grantsville.
DAVID RICHARD CHENOWETH
David Richard Chenoweth, 89, died Sunday, May 20, 2018, at UH-Portage Medical Center, Ravenna, Ohio.
He was born at Nicut, the son of the late Denver and Faye Lamb Chenoweth. He was a 1947 graduate of Calhoun County High School and a resident of the Shalersville, Ohio, area for over 50 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and had been employed in supervision at Samuel Moore & Co-Eaton, retiring after 39 years. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Ravenna.
Surviving are his wife, Emma Lou Stalnaker Chenoweth, whom he married on Jan. 3, 1954; two children, Louetta Mayle and Kenneth Chenoweth, both of Shalersville; siblings, Denver Chenoweth of Florida, James Chenoweth and Kathryn Arnold, both of Arizona, Helen Hathaway of Akron, Ohio, and Sharon Smith of Ravenna; half-siblings, Roger Chenoweth of West Virginia and Sue McKown of Cleveland, Ohio; four grandchildren, David Mayle, Travis Mayle, Brittany Dye and Joshua Chenoweth; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Chenoweth; infant son, Roger Dale Chenoweth; and one grandson, Justin Chenoweth.
Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Green Family Funeral Home, Mantua, Ohio, with Pastor David Ballert officiating, assisted by Pastor Kevin Stansberry. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Shalersville, with military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force. Visitation will be held Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
