The Doddridge County Bulldogs defeated the Calhoun County Red Devils, 48-0, last Friday at Mt. Zion in a game shortened by lightning.
CCHS had no answer for the potent Bulldog offense, which scored on each possession except its last of the game, which was cut short when time expired at the half.
The visitors’ defense allowed very little, hold-ing Calhoun to minus three yards rushing and 25 yards passing.
The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, striking on a 59-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the game to take a 7-0 lead.
The Green and White scored on all five posses-sions in the first quarter and on their first two of the second quarter to build an insurmountable 48-0 lead at the half.
Most of the drives were efficient–the longest one lasted five plays–and the Bulldog line prevented the Calhoun defense from penetrating the backfield, affording the quarterback and running backs excel-lent protection.
Calhoun’s offense was unable to overcome the Doddridge defense.
The Red Devils earned a first down on their first play of the game–a 15-yard pass from Adam Parsons to Travis Richards–but that was the last new set of downs the home team managed on the night.
Storms in the distance forced a half-hour delay to the start of the second half, and after the delay had been extended to an hour, the officials decided to call the game after only two quarters of play.
Dalton McCune led CCHS in tackles with seven. Named player of the game for Calhoun was lineman Justin Mounts.
The Red Devils will host the Knights of Tyler Consolidated High School on Friday at 7 p.m.
Calhoun will be looking for its first home win of the season and its first ever victory against Tyler Consolidated.
