GERALD WILLIAM YOAK
Gerald William Yoak, 68, of Elizabeth, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018.
He was born near Creston, the son of the late Dessel and Otha Haney Yoak. He was employed for several years by the City of Wadsworth, Ohio.
Surviving are one sister, Linda Stutler of Elizabeth; five half-sisters, Chris Montgomery, Elizabeth Meadows, Gloria Snead, Wanda Downard and Rachel Albury, all of Lancaster, Ohio; one half-brother, Chad Yoak of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Services were held at Matheny Whited Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Rev. William D. Stutler and Jason Stutler officiating. Burial was in Snyder Chapel Cemetery, Calhoun County.
DAVID DALE BOOHER
David Dale Booher, 69, of Sandyville, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2018, in Parkersburg.
He was the son of Freda White Booher Wears and the late Deward Booher. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a welder at Pechiney Rolled Products, Ravenswood, for 23 years.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Cathy; three daughters, Patty Hamilton, Rebecca Anderson and Sheree Gandee; one son, Kevin Booher; two sisters, Loretta Sampson and Carol Swearinger; eight grandchildren, Allie, Karlie, Cole, Taylor, Kassidy, Blair, Emilee and Cathie; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kaitlyn.
Services were held at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood. Burial was in Ravenswood Cemetery, with graveside military rites provided by Jackson County Honor Guard.
CHARLES EVERETT STARCHER
Charles Everett Starcher, 85, of Sandyville, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at Hubbard Hospice House, West, South Charleston.
He was born in Arnoldsburg, the son of the late Everett and Eva Lynch Starcher. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in Guam during the Korean War. He was a member of Salt Hill Church, Ripley.
Surviving are one son, Dexter Starcher and wife Sandy of Danville; one sister, Becky Hardway of Elmira; three grandchildren, Colin Metz, Cholee Berry and Kassie Ball; and two great-grandchildren, Laura Metz and Luke Berry.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Roberta Starcher; one son, William Clair Starcher; one sister, Frankie Prine; and two brothers, Harold Starcher and Doyle Starcher.
Graveside service was held at Gibson Cemetery, Calhoun County, with Pastor David Fields officiating.
WILLIAM ‘Bill’ ETLING, SR.
William “Bill” Etling Sr., 77, of Barberton, Ohio, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018.
He was the son of the late Delroy and Kathryn Etling of Marshallville, Ohio. He retired from Bricklayers Local #7.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Evelyn Jarvis Etling; two sons, Bill Etling, Jr., and Frank Estep; one daughter, Tammy Armbruster; four grandsons, Kyle, Sam, Landon and Parker; one granddaughter, Haley; one brother, Charles of Arizona; and friends, Randy Parsons and Paul Parsons of Calhoun County.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth and Ann.
There will be no services. Cremation has taken place at his request.
THOMAS FRIEND
Thomas A. Friend, 73, of Gassaway, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018.
He was the son of the late Alice Nicholas Sawyers. He retired from B&O Railroad and as owner of Friend’s Ditch Witch and Backhoe Service. He was a member of Old German Community Church, Chapel.
Surviving are his wife, Cindy Friend; one sister, Velma Seal of Riffle; three daughters, Sue Frame of Exchange and Terri Miller and Carol Carr, both of Gassaway; two step-children, Dale Clark of Chloe and Terri Butler of Nebo; special niece, Tracy Miller of Frametown; 10 grandchildren, Chris Fisher, Kelli Robinson, Dustin Miller, Katelyn Miller, Spencer Carr, Jaden Carr, Felicia Blake, Kayla Morris, Cody Clark and Brooke Dawson; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Denzil Sawyers, and one brother, John D. Sawyers.
Services were held at Old German Community Church, Chapel, with Pastor Rick Hart officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Chapel.
BRENDA LEA GREATHOUSE
Brenda Lea Greathouse, 50, of Pine Creek Road, Mt. Zion, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2018, at Ruby Memorial, Morgantown.
She was born in Grantsville, the daughter of Pearl Carpenter and the late John Greathouse.
Surviving in addition to her mother is her long-time companion Georgie Nichols; one daughter, Misty Nichols; three grandchildren, Maeson, McKenlea and Greyson Grogg; one sister, Hazel Lamp; two brothers, Eddie Greathouse and Jamie Carpenter; long-time boyfriend, Timothy Holt; and several step-children, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Frankie Greathouse.
Memorial service was held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville.
DALTON PARSONS
Dalton Parsons, 81, of Straight Creek, Wirt County, died on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Minnie Hamilton Health System.
He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Joseph and Gathie Parsons.
Surviving are one brother, Teddy Parsons of Brohard; one nephew; one niece; two great-nieces; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Henry Parsons, and two sisters.
Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Parsons/Lambert Cemetery, Crummies Creek.
