WANDA CAIN

Wanda Cain, 71, of Cleveland, Ohio, died Thursday, May 3, 2018, at her home.
She was born in Clay County, the daughter of the late Howard and Stacy Allen McCune Ferrebee.
Surviving are her husband, Jasper Cain; one son, Rodney Cain; one daughter, Angela Lenz; one brother, Rodger Allen; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Parsons and Marlene Tallhammer, and one brother, Lowell Allen.
Graveside services were held at Orma United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Carl Marks officiating.

DONALD MILLARD SHIMER

Donald Millard Shimer, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, in Sun City West, Ariz.
He was born in Freed, the son of Lemuel Harley Shimer and Lovisa Fox Shimer. He was a 1943 graduate of Wirt County High School and joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a radioman, 2nd class (RM2) on the landing craft USS LCS (L)(3)-988. He was honorably discharged in May 1946 and graduated from Marietta College with a bachelors degree in 1949 and from West Virginia University with a masters degree in business administration in 1951. Don was head coach of Walton High School’s football team for three years, 1952-1954, and was part of a group who formed Belpre High School’s first football team, where he was head coach for two seasons, 1955-1956. He was a history teacher and administrator for the Belpre school system (1957-1964) and Stow school system (1964-1984), where he retired as superintendent of schools. He and his wife worked as owners and directors of Fantastic Sams Hair Salons for 10 years (1985-1995) before retiring to Sun City West. He was a life-long member of United Methodist Church and served in many offices.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Patricia Stuart Shimer; four daughters, Carol Venzin of Loganville, Ga., Donna Rowley of Canyon Lake, Calif., Melinda Kline of Westfield Center, Ohio, and Rebecca Neal of DeBary, Fla.; two sons, Randall Shimer of Ravenna, Ohio, and Christopher Shimer of York, Neb.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Butcher of Sandusky, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Shimer and Herbert Shimer, and two sisters, Mavedelle Lieving and Madeline Prather.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg.

HARLES ‘Bud’ HICKS

Harles “Bud” Hicks, 62, of Spencer, died Sunday, Apr. 29, 2018, at his home.
He was born at Zanesville, Ohio, the son of the late Darris and Arlena Stump Hicks. He grew up in Calhoun County. He worked construction and was a former employee of Kellwood and Spencer Veneer, both of Spencer.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Karen Drake Hicks; one son, Rodney of Spencer; one step-daughter, Pam of Martinsburg; two grandsons, Mason and Aiden Hicks of Spencer; two step-granddaughters, Tasha and D.J. of Martinsburg; two step-great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Camela of Martinsburg; one brother, Dorel of Chloe; one sister, Loraine of Chloe; and one sister-in-law, Judy of Orma.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Per Bud’s request, there will be no visitation or service.
