LONNIE ‘Pop’ GREATHOUSE, JR.
Lonnie “Pop” Greathouse, Jr., 83, of Vienna, died Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at his home.
He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Lonnie Greathouse, Sr., and Enid Bailey Greathouse. He served in the U.S. Army for four years and worked at the Ravenswood Constellium plant in manufacturing.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Patricia “Patty” Hess Greathouse; one daughter, Vickie Brown of Vienna; special grandson and caregiver, John R. Jackson, Jr.; four sisters, Jan, Betty, Karen and Willa; two other grandchildren, Nick Brown and Katie Brown Hall; and five great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Zane, Layla, Xavier and Luke.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy and Leon, and two sisters, Peggy and Annabelle.
A gathering of family and friends was held at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna.
HENRY CRAFTON SAUER, JR.
Henry Crafton Sauer, Jr., 74, of Orma, died Monday, May 7, 2018, at his home.
He was born in Dundalk, Md., the son of the late Henry Crafton Sauer, Sr., and Lorraine Weis Sauer. He had a small farm in Pennsylvania where he boarded and raised several of his own horses. His latest adventure was in West Virginia with a 100-acre mountainside farm.
Surviving are one son, Paul E. Sauer, Sr., and wife Nina; four grandchildren, Paul E. “P.J.” Sauer, Christopher Sauer, Kyle Sauer and Terra Haun; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Freda “Sally” Unverzagt and Germaine “Gerri” D. Johnson; long-time companion, Gay N. Sauer; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one son, Henry C. Sauer III; one sister, Lorrain A.A. Jordan; and one brother, Robert D. Sauer, Sr.
Services were held at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, Dundalk, with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
RONALD LEE HOSEY
Ronald Lee Hosey, 81, of Grantsville, died Monday, May 7, 2018, at his home.
He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Parker and India Goodnight Hosey. He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked as a bailing/service rig operator for Dominion Energy, retiring in 1994 after 22 years. He was a member of Grantsville Lions Club and was a deacon at Bethlehem Baptist Church, near Grantsville, where he held membership for 25 years.
Surviving are his wife, Carole Kelley Hosey, whom he married on Dec. 27, 1958; one son, Steve Hosey of Grantsville; three grandchildren, Kyleigh Hosey, Kinley Hosey and Keyton Garrett, all of Grants-ville; and one great-grandson, Grayden Detweiler of Grantsville.
He was preceded in death by five siblings, Irene Hosey, John Hosey, Joseph Hosey, Albert Hosey and Kathryn Ullum.
Ronald’s request for cremation has been honored. Memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Saturday at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church in his honor.
WANDA CAIN
Wanda Cain, 71, of Cleveland, Ohio, died Thursday, May 3, 2018, at her home.
She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Howard and Stacie McCune Ferrebee Allen.
Surviving are her husband, Jasper Cain; one son, Rodney Cain; one daughter, Angela Lenz; one brother, Roger Allen; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Parsons and Murlene Ferrebee, and one brother, Lowell Allen.
Graveside services were held at Orma United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Carl Marks officiating.
LEOTA HELEN CUNNINGHAM
Leota Helen Cunningham, 96, of Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Harrisville, died Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at her daughter’s residence in Nashville.
She was born in Grantsville, the daughter of the late Clay and Murrell B. Holbert Collins. She was a 1940 graduate of Calhoun County High School. She married her husband Arthur in 1944 and traveled with him during World War II and worked for the draft board. After the war, they opened Green and White Truck Stop on old Rt. 50 and owned Imperial Furniture Co., Harrisville, from 1953-1994. She moved to Nashville in 2002. While living in Harrisville, she attended St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Emma Cunningham Lorentz of Brentwood, Tenn., and Judy Cunningham of Nashville; one granddaughter, Rachel Hill-Jordan of Mt. Zion, Ill.; one great-granddaughter, Ella Jordan; and one sister-in-law, Ruby Collins of Big Springs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur B. Cunningham, in 1977, and three brothers, Delbert Collins, Harley Ray Collins and Robert Collins.
Graveside services were held at Nobe Cemetery, with Pastor Ronnie Blevins officiating.
JEANNETTE LEE SIMONS
Jeannette Lee Simons, 82, of Orma, died Friday, May 11, 2018, at the home of her daughter.
She was born at Spencer, the daughter of the late Dennis Alfred and Goldie McCoy Henderson. Jeannette was a retired social worker.
Surviving are three daugh-ters, Annette Spaur of Spencer, Nannette Sampson of Arnolds-burg and Tammy Houchin of Orma; one son, Dennis Spaur of Arnoldsburg; two step-children, Terry L. Carter of Parkersburg and Thomas C. Simons of Gassaway; two nieces, whom she helped raise, Angela A. Hoffman Potter and Laura A. Hoffman Pauley; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garold G. Simons; one daughter, Rebecca Moss; one step-son, Jerry Simons; and one sister, Mary Ann Hoffman.
Services will be held Sunday, 3 p.m., at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastor Dean Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Blessed Hope Cemetery, Spencer. Visitation will be held Sunday, 2 to 3 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be shared at www.taylorfuneralhomeinc.com.
DEREK SHANE FUNK
Derek Shane Funk, 27, of Frametown, died Monday, Apr. 30, 2018, at his home.
He was the son of Danny and Terri Funk. He was a mechanic at Mid-State Chevrolet and Big Chimney Auto and Diesel.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Jessica Funk; one daughter, Roselyn Funk; two sons, Landon and Hoyt Funk; one brother, Justin Funk; grandparents, Ron and Lois Cummings; one step-sister, Christy White; and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Okey and Nellie Cottrell and Fred and Twila Funk; one cousin, Johnny Jr. Cottrell; mother-in-law, Darlene Gooslin; two nieces, Patricia and Aryanne Jackson; and one nephew, Ryan Jackson.

SARAH SHELBY BELL SHAFFER
Sarah Shelby Bell Shaffer, 42, of North Lewisburg, Ohio, formerly of Calhoun County, died Sunday, May 13, 2018, at Memorial Hospital, Marysville, Ohio.
She was born in Barberton, Ohio, and received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in early childhood education from Ohio State University. She was an early education teacher for Headstart in the central Ohio area. She attended Haven Community Church and Raymond Church of Christ, Christian Union.
Surviving are her husband of 26 years, Charles Shaffer, whom she married on Feb. 28, 1991, in Clinton, Ohio; two daughters, Tiffany Shaffer of Marysville and Kayleigh Shaffer of North Lewisburg; one grandson, Charles Wyatt Shaffer; three brothers, Matt Duskey, Matthew Bell and Clayton Bell; one sister, Mandy Duskey; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her “Pap” and “Nan” (grandparents and adoptive parents), Harold Shelby and Mary Louise Greathouse Bell, Sr.; two infant daughters, Erin Shelby and Charleigh Sophia; twin infant sons; and two step-brothers, Christopher Bell and George Duskey, Jr.
Services will be held Friday, 12:30 p.m., at Snyder Chapel Church, Katies Run Road, Creston, with Rev. Farley Blankenship officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
