JOYCE HATHAWAY
Joyce Alley Toothman Hathaway, 91, of Bexley, Ohio, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Barr Hathaway of Grantsville.
She was a 1947 graduate of Randolph Macon Woman’s College, Lynchburg, Va., with a BA degree. After the C&O Railroad ended its hostess service, she enrolled at West Virginia University to pursue a master’s degree in education. While student teaching at University High School, she met a fellow student teacher, David Hathaway, who promised never to try to change her. He offered her the choice of an engagement ring or a new refrigerator–she chose the refrigerator. In 1961, she took a position in Capital University’s English Dept. in Columbus, Ohio, where she taught folklore and American literature until her retirement in 1994. Along the way, her husband convinced her to earn her PhD in English. After retirement, she volunteered at Franklin Park Conservatory and the Ohio Governor’s residence. She was a member of Bexley United Methodist Church for over 60 years.
Surviving are two sons, Phillip Hathaway and Mark Hathaway; two daughters, Pamela McKinley and Rosemary Bredehoft; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Carol King.
Memorial service was held at Bexley U.M. Church.
PHILIP LYLE STEVEN
Philip Lyle Steven, 77, of Arnoldsburg, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at his home.
He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Bert and Myrtle Gainer Stevens.
Surviving are his wife, Velcia Ann Tanner Stevens.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

CHARLES REESE HORNE
Charles Reese Horne, 63, of Spencer, died Wednesday, May 23, 2018.
He was born in Bedford, Va., the son of John Lemon Horne of Bedford and the late Laura Illeane Puckett Neil Horne. He was a Class A building contractor in Virginia for over 35 years. He was a member of Ruritans, Moneta, Va., and was foster father to over 57 children.
Surviving in addition to his father are his wife of 39 years, Patricia Ann Horne; one daughter, Sebrena Ann Horne of Bedford; two brothers, John L. Horne, Jr., of Roanoke, Va., and Noel Jackson Neal of Ironto, Va.; and one sister, Sharon Priscilla Horne Ranney of Vinton, Va.
He was preceded in death by one brother, David F. Neil.
A family gathering was held at the Horne residence.
MYRA FLEMING
Myla S. Fleming, 87, of Barboursville, died Sunday, May 20, 2018, at The Wyngate Senior Living Community.
She was born in Grantsville, the daughter of the late Miles Wellington and Rosa Lee Mahaney Stump. She worked from home as a notary public and as an accountant for a local oil and gas company.
Surviving are two sons; Robert C. Fleming and wife Frances of Olney, Md., and William C. Fleming of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four daughters, Sandra L. Hoff and husband Larry of Springfield, Ohio, Linda J. Fleming of Goodyear, Ariz., Myla Elizabeth Barber and husband Charles of Piedmont, S.C., and Tamara J. Cogar and husband Kevin of Barboursville; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John C. Fleming; three sisters, Lillian Eberly, Mildred Kerby and Wauneta Waters; and one brother, William Austin Stump.
Services will be held Monday, 11 a.m., at Henson and Kitchen Mortuary, 6357 E. Pea Ridge Road, Barboursville, with William Fleming officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, 10 to 11 a.m., at the mortuary. Graveside services will be held Monday, 3:30 p.m., at Bethlehem Cemetery, near Grantsville. PRICE POWELL RUSH
Price Powell Rush, 78, of Normantown, died Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at his home.
He was born in Milborn, the son of the late Amos and Lorain Jones Rush.
Surviving are one son, one daughter and one brother.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lavaughn Rush, in 2015.

RONALD LEE BOATRIGHT
Ronald Lee Boatright, 68, of Big Springs, died Saturday, May 26, 2018, after a battle with cancer.
He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Ray and Leta Stump Boatright.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Gretchen; three sons, Rick Boatright, Jason Boatright and Justin Boatright; two daughters, Jami Wilson and Casey Boatright; five grandchildren, Cole Boatright, Amelia Perdomo, Jacob Perdomo, Avery Boatright and Lucas Perdomo; three sisters, Marie Morrell, Velma Parsons and Allie Boggs; one brother, Ronzel Boatright; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and “adopted” kids.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Almeda Starcher, and one brother, Roland Boatright.
